Safer Pain Management Program Details:

Medications We Do NOT Prescribe in this Program

  1. Oxycodone
  2. Norco / Vicodin  (Hydrocodone)
  3. MS-Contin (Morphine)
  4. Dilaudid (Hydromorphone)
  5. Demerol (Heperidine)
  6. No Full Agonist Opioids

Why Buprenorphine (Subutex) + Non-Opioids?

Buprenorphine, formerly know as Subutex, is only a partial agonist on opioid receptors. What is an agonist?  An agonist is an activator.  It turns on your opioid receptors, which reduce the sensation of pain.  But this is also very dangerous because too much activation can cause Opioid Overdose.

At this Pain Clinic, our Pain Doctor prescribes Buprenorphine which is a PARTIAL Agonist.  This makes it much safer than the Full Agonist Opioids (such as those listed above).

Significant reduction of pain can be achieved with a combination of Buprenorphine and other NON-OPIOID medications, such as neuropathy medications,  muscle relaxers and lifestyle changes!
